£1.5million to get teens back on track
A college has received £1.5million to help teenagers get back on track.
In a bid to motivate young people across Calderdale and Kirklees, the cash for Kirklees College will go to a range of activities designed to reduce the numbers of 14 to 19-year-olds not in education, employment or training.
The Engage project will run until summer 2011.
Judith Horsfield, training partnership manager, said: "This is fantastic news for teenagers in the area and will be of great benefit to the local community.
"The activities on offer will increase their self-confidence, improve their motivation and give them new skills which will enhance their career prospects."
The project will encourage 14 to 16-year-olds to increase school attendance and carry on with education or training post-16.
Older teens will have the chance to learn specific skills and will receive support to help them into further education, employment or training.
