36 homes to replace factories?
A GROUP of run-down factories could be demolished to make way for 36 new homes.
Plans have been submitted to bulldoze High Level Works, Pellon Lane, Halifax, because they are unsuitable for modern needs and access is inadequate.
"The premises are in poor condition on a site that has many restrictions and cannot be improved, given the proximity of nearby houses," said chartered surveyor Keith Cannon.
"Most industrial or manufacturing companies require access for commercial vehicles, often 40ft articulated lorries, and access to the High Level Works does not allow such vehicles an adequate turning or manoeuvering area."
Mr K. Wilkinson wants Calderdale Council to give approval for 36 three-storey homes in two rows, which would be largely hidden behind the houses on Pellon Lane.
A decision is expected in January.
High Level Works is named after the railway which ran between 1890 and 1927 from St Paul's Station, King Cross, through Pellon, Wheat-ley, Ovenden and Holmfield, where it joined the Halifax-Queensbury and Bradford-Keighley line of the Great Northern Railway.
