A girlie fund- raiser in memory of Shannen

A GROUP of teenagers will mark the anniversary of their friend's death in a car accident with a charity ball.

Shannen Harker, 15, of Thornhill Road, Rastrick, died when her father Stephen Rushworth crashed the VW Golf he was driving in Brighouse in 2008.

Her friends, Alice Enderby, Erika Leadbetter, Shoni Gale and Jessica Bilinski, all 17 and pupils at Rastrick high School, have organised a charity ball on August 6 at the Holiday Inn, Brighouse.

They hope the Sex and the City-themed night will raise 5,000 in their friend's memory.

Alice said: "The ball will follow a Sex and the City theme as Shannen liked watching it and it's a very girlie theme."

Decorations will include six-foot stiletto shoes, casino tables and posters of the main characters from the hit US TV show.

Guests will enjoy a three-course meal, raffle, auction and music from a local band.

All the money raised will be shared between the Joseph Salmon Trust and the Forget Me Not Trust, which support bereaved parents and children.

The charities have helped in previous events organised by the girls and the Joseph Salmon Trust contributed towards Shannen's headstone,

In 2008, 2,000 was raised at a fashion show at Tokyos night club, Huddersfield.

The girls made 3,000 for a sponsored walk between Rastrick Cemetery, where Shannen was buried, and the Ship Inn, Brighouse, last year.
