Acoustic fun at musical evening
ACOUSTIC music from six-piece band A Rookery and family folk band Folk on Fire – a brother, sister and step-brother from Halifax – hit the right note at the first El Campello evening of 2010.
Organised by Halifax music promoters The Doghouse, the regular "lo-fi" acousic nights are held at Cookies Bar in the town. Music promoter Michael Ainsworth said: "Folk on Fire have only been playing together for the past 12 months. They mainly play traditional folk music from Ireland, England, Scotland and America, jazzing them up a little with their own arrangements.
"In the past year, Folk on Fire have played at the National Festival of Music for Youth where their performance was described as 'very stylish indeed' and 'a most enjoyable performance'.
In October, they were the first sell-out gig at Q Folk at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, and have since been invited to support Tom McConville – Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year 2009 – in Knaresborough in May."
