Alex hoping for a Royal audience

A TEENAGER has won his second musical scholarship to a prestigious London college.

Alex Binns, a former pupil of North Halifax Grammar School, will take up a place at the Royal Academy of Music in September.

This success follows the 19-year-old's current scholarship at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, where he is completing an organ-study programme.

''It does get very busy and intense," he said.

"I have various duties with the choir. I conduct services and so practising for these roles takes up a lot of my time.''

Alex, of Savile Park, Halifax, hopes to perform for the Royal family before he leaves Windsor Castle in July.

''The Royal family haven't come to the chapel yet but they're due to come next term so I'm excited about that.''

He has been playing the organ for six years and also plays the piano.

He learned the organ at Halifax Minster, where he was an organ scholar for three years.

Before studying at St George's Chapel, Alex completed A-levels in music, maths and history and is now looking forward to his latest challenge.

''My parents and friends are all really thrilled and excited for me. I'm looking forward to it,'' he said.
