Alien v Predator... but in the pub! Sci-fi blockbuster monsters made of motorbike parts
SCI-FI monsters Alien and Predator are battling it out again – at a pub near you.
A towering 8ft Predator sculpture – made from motobike parts – has joined the 6ft Alien already in place at MacMillans pub in Wheatley, Halifax.
The sculpture is the work of designer Andy Shaw who was inspired to make the piece after seeing the Alien, which came from Big D's bar at Todmorden after it closed in March.
The two sci-fi beasts first went head to head in the 2004 Hollywood blockbuster, Alien vs Predator, and again in 2007 in Aliens vs Predator: Requiem.
Now they will be battling for customers' attention at the bikers' pub, run by Ashlie Fawthrop, the daughter of former Big D's landlord Darren Fawthrop.
Predator took around two months to build and is made up of over 5,000 parts of different motorbikes.
Ashlie said: "The customers all love it, they have their pictures taken with it." She also said it may be the last sculpture to grace MacMillans pub as there is no room for any more works of art.
Bradford-born designer Andy said: "An important aspect of my work is that it is environmentally sustainable and that is reuses materials for a purpose other than that which they were designed for."
Andy has just finished teaching sixth form students in Bradford the benefits of reusing materials and is hoping to do something similar here in Calderdale.
