At last we're moving: Work finally starts on Shay and Broad Street schemes
WORK has at last begun on two projects vital to Halifax.
The 4.5 million scheme to complete the Shay stadium and the long-awaited Broad Street development are now under way.
When Owen Williams, Calderdale Council's new chief executive was appointed in January, he pledged there would be no more delays on the projects.
"I will be judged on what happens at the Shay, Broad Street and the Piece Hall," he said at the time.
Council leader Stephen Baines (Northowram and Shelf) said today: "We are making things happen, not just in Halifax but throughout Calderdale.
"Work is starting on the Broad Street development, contractors have been appointed for new swimming pools in Sowerby Bridge and Brighouse, libraries are being improved and plans are in the pipeline to rebuild Calderdale College."
