Attacker who pushed two-year-old in pram into road is spared jail
A MAN who attacked his girlfriend before pushing a pram containing her two-year-old daughter into the middle of the road has been spared jail.
Lee Wennington, 21, attacked the pair, whose identity has been protected by the courts, in Syke Lane, Lightcliffe, after he and his girlfriend had been arguing in a car.
Waseem Raja, prosecuting, told Calderdale magistrates his girlfriend had asked Wennington to stop the car to let her daughter out but once they were outside he slapped her in the face and pushed her to the ground.
"He then pushed the pram containing her daughter into the road.
"The mother then got up, retrieved the pram and walked down the street.
"The defendent pursued until she found a passer-by. He then drove off in a car."
Wennington, of Bishopdale Holme, Buttershaw, Bradford, pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner.
He had denied assaulting the tot, but was found guilty by the magistrates
Maria Temko, for Wennington, said: "He is a very young and immature man and this is perhaps something he cannot accept to himself has happened.
"These were two very young people and unfortunately there was a baby involved.
"He realises his behaviour was very inappropriate."
Wennington received a 18-month community order for the two assaults, was ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work and ordered to attend an anger management programme.
He was also ordered to pay 50 compensation to his former partner.
