Band raised £2,000 for charity

MUSICIANS banded together to raise almost £2,000 for charity.

Codego, a five-piece indie rock outfit from Pellon, Halifax, completed the gruelling Three Peaks challenge in aid of the Leeds Society for the Deaf and Blind, where guitarist Sam Lawson's mum works.

Frontman Lee Bray said: "I've got to admit that it was the single most difficult thing I've ever done."

The group, joined by two friends, started their quest at Ben Nevis, Scotland, where they faced a six-hour climb in the dark.

The band had planned to play a song at each summit and post the videos online, but had to abandon the idea after the first peak.

Mr Bray said: "It was freezing and at that stage it was also the windiest place I'd ever been. Carrying a guitar to the top was enough for me. I almost dropped it off the side a couple of times.

"We did attempt to play a short effort at the bottom but we were fatigued and morale had long disappeared.

"It wasn't our best attempt at a song but it will be shortly posted on our MySpace page with a montage of climbing from each of the peaks."

The group went on to tackle Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon, Wales – climbing more than 3,400m in just four hours over their 24-hour target.
