Bus drama: Fare dispute... then man knocked over
A MAN in his 20s was knocked down by a bus – seconds after a row with the driver over a fare.
Horror-struck passengers on the Halifax-bound First bus rushed to help the man after the accident on busy Ovenden Road yesterday.
It is understood he had tried to board the bus at a stop at Ovenden Road's junction with Ovenden Way.
But reports said there had been an argument with the driver over his fare. The man then got off and walked in front of the bus, which struck him as it pulled away from the stop.
Police and an ambulance were called to the scene but the dual carriageway was not closed.
The victim, described as in his early 20s, was taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital, where his injuries were not thought to be serious. Police said: "We were called to Ovenden Road, Halifax, at about 11.15am by the bus driver.
"The driver is believed to have had an altercation with a male over a fare.
"The male then got off and walked in front of the bus as it has pulled away."
The spokesman said no arrests had been made.
A spokesman for bus company First said: "We are currently working with the police as they carry out an investigation into a minor collision involving one of our buses in Halifax yesterday morning.
"Safety is our number one priority.
"We will also be carrying out our own thorough internal investigation."
In a separate accident yesterday, two motorists were involved in a collision before hitting four other cars.
The cars crashed at the junction of Clover Hill Road and Free School Lane, Halifax, around 3pm. The crash scene is pictured below.
