Calderdale prepares for more snow

DRIVERS are preparing themselves for more chaos on the roads with weathermen predicting more snow later this week.

Today's black ice and snow caused mayhem across Calderdale, with police called out to a dozen minor crashes just this morning.

Officers were urging drivers to be prepared for the treacherous weather conditions.

Traffic officer PC Simon Hall said: "Not only should they making sure all their windows are clear from condensation but they should be going out and having a look at the condition of the road."

A spokeswoman for Calderdale Council said Old Town Primary, at Hebden Bridge, and St John's Primary, at Rishworth, had closed because of the weather.

Although the snow is expected to clear by tonight, more is expected on Thursday.

Meanwhile readers have been sending in their photos from todays wintry conditions.

Pupils at the Maltings School in Halifax have been creating their own snow woman - Milliw Maltings.

While Paul Brannigan took these snowy shots of a school bus making its way from Colden to Heptonstall and on to Calder High, and of the view down to Popples Common and Hebden Bridge.

And this beautiful winter setting was captured this morning by Courier reader Dave Wood, of Ladstone Towers, Sowerby Bridge.

He looked out of his kitchen window to see the snow covered Norland hillside.

"It is always a nice sight and first thing this morning it was very picturesque."
