Charles, 10, shows a flair for languages in Euro competition
BE IT in Dutch, Vietnamese, or plain old Queen's English, a Calderdale youngster is showing a real flair for languages.
Charles Royle, a 10-year-old pupil at The Gleddings Preparatory School, Savile Park, Halifax, has reached the semi-final of a national languages competition tripping up the competition with his globe-trotting tongue.
The contest, called the Eurotalk Junior Language Competition, is open to every primary school pupil in the country and tests language skills through computer games.
The talented youngster said: "It's a challenge but I'm really enjoying taking part.
"I've already had to play computer games in Dutch to get this far and now I'm busy practising Vietnamese to battle it out for the final.
"It's all really exciting."
The regional semi final takes place on September 24 before the London final later in the year.
