Chidren In Need: Calderdale pulls together for Pudsey
Calderdale school pupils have pulled out all the stops today to raise money for Children in Need.
From making hand-crafted bonnets to subjecting teachers to the good old 'baked bean' bath, schools across the district set up all kinds of activities to support the appeal.
Primary classes at Riverside School in Hebden Bridge decorated hats to raise money, making one entirely out of sweets. Headteacher Anne Walker said the pupils' efforts were "absolutely fabulous" and said participation from staff and children had made the day a real success.
Sixth form students from Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School put themselves up for auction for other pupils. All senior staff wore fancy dress, with the head dressing as a giant ostrich, and greeted students on the bus as it arrived at the school gates.
The school had raised 1,000 before 10am.
Headteacher Anthony Smith said: "The atmosphere all around school was fantastic."
Revenge is sweet to the pupils at Ryburn Valley High School, who 'conned' staff into sitting in a bath of cold baked beans.
Sport teacher Leanne Parker said: "We've been conned, but its all for a good cause"
Elsewhere across Calderdale, groups and businesses were also doing their bit.
Staff at Sowerby Bridge curtains company J&C Joel turned up for work in fancy dress, both at their UK base and in the firm's new Hong Kong office.
Workers brought in home-cooked food to sell at lunchtime and held a raffle.
Claire Taylforth, marketing co-ordinator, said: "Children in Need is something we support year on year as it is for a good cause as well as a fun day."
And at the Baby Ballet Song and Dance Academy, Halifax, mascot Twinkle entertained the children with her own impersonation of Pudsey bear.
