Churches unite to form 'super circuit'

METHODIST churches across Calderdale have united to form a "super circuit" covering the whole district.

The union of the Upper Calder, Brighouse, Pellon/Ryburn and Halifax circuits was marked by a special service at Halifax Minster.

Albert Gayle, Superintendent Minister for Halifax, said: "It's a great celebration to mark the birth of the new circuit.

"We've been working to this for a long time so we can do God's work better and more efficiently."

The move will allow the new circuit's 31 churches to pool their resources, he said.

"Some churches are quite small and don't have the personnel to do a lot of the office jobs that a church would normally have to fulfil.

"The work was becoming a bit of a burden to struggling congregations and we want to help them be released from that to some extent.

"Now we'll be able to provide more people to choose from, more equipment and more resources."

Rev Gayle will be stepping down as Ian Coverdale and Tony Buglass have been appointed the new Superintendent Ministers for Calderdale.

Rev Gayle said: "I'm in the business of making myself redundant so that God's work can develop."
