Cinders will be having a ball! - Jennifer to star in Halifax panto

A CALDERDALE actress is living her dream to star as rags-to-riches pantomime princess Cinderella in her home town.

Jennifer Burrows has landed the star role in Halifax's festive spectacular. And the former North Halifax Grammar School student is delighted.

Her hectic work schedule means she is often touring the country – she appeared alongside Joe McGann in a 30-venue stage show of Broadway musical Fiddler on the Roof – so it means she can spend Christmas at home.

Jennifer, 25, will play the heroine in the Victoria Theatre professional production that also stars Halifax entertainer Neil Hurst as Buttons.

And she is also looking forward to sitting down for Christmas dinner with her family, including mum and dad, Julie and Trevor Burrows, of Shelf, and her grandmother Betty Bennett of Northowram.

Jennifer said: "It's lovely to be back in Halifax and nice to know I will be home for Christmas.

"I have known Neil for a long time. We were in Halifax Amateur Operatic Society's 42nd Street together before we went off to do different things and I haven't seen him for ages."

Jennifer, who studied English language and linguistics at Durham University before becoming a professional actress, appeared on the BBC TV show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

Although she did not make it to the final 10, she gained a place at "Maria School" with funding from viewers' telephone votes.

She later received a coveted BBC Musical Theatre bursary designed to support new talent and studied at Guildford School of Acting. After graduating in 2007, she toured with Fiddler on the Roof last year, which took her to Bradford and Blackpool but did not reach the Halifax stage.

Tickets for Cinderella, which will be performed at the Victoria Theatre from Saturday December 12 to Sunday January 3, are already selling well.

"I am so excited about being a princess every day," Jennifer said.

"It's a dream. It's definitely the best role in panto."
