Come and see plans for future of Piece Hall

A MODEL and pictures of how the Piece Hall could look if a multi-million pound redevelopment scheme goes ahead will go on display at Square Chapel, Halifax, tonight.

The public are invited to come and see the plans – to be unveiled at 5pm. There will be a short presentation at 6pm, which will be an opportunity for the public to get more details and comment on the proposals for quality shops, hi-tech businesses, a town square and amphitheatre.

"The plans for the Piece Hall are inspiring and it's very important that we share them with the people of Calderdale who feel passionately about this fantastic structure," said Calderdale Council cabinet member Ian Cooper (Con, Todmorden).

"We want to ensure the Piece Hall plays a significant part in the next chapter of Halifax's story, with a pivotal role at the heart of the town's cultural and economic life."

The model by architects Evans Vettori, and the pictures, already highlighted in the Courier, will be on display until 8pm.

Calderdale Council hopes to have its ambitious and visionary plans for the 18th century listed building finalised by the end of September so that a bid can be made for 7 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It is hoped to raise as much again from other sources to enable it to become a centre for creative businesses and upmarket shops by 2012.
