Couple's bulldog Bruce is usher for their wedding day

IT wasn't just the priest who wore the dog collar at this wedding.

Marcus and Olivia Berry ensured their beloved bulldog Bruce was a part of the biggest day of their life when they got married at Sacred Heart and St Patrick Church, Bolton Brow.

Bruce was suited, booted and wore a top hat for his role as usher outside the church.

Marcus, a policeman, said: "I originally wanted him to be ring bearer and walk up the aisle but the church would not allow it, so I had to make do with him being usher.

"He came to the pub with us boys for half a Guinness before the ceremony.

"He certainly looked the part and stole a little bit of Olivia's thunder as everyone was making a fuss of him."

Marcus, an avid Only Fools and Horses fan, also incorporated his replica yellow Trotter's Independent Traders van into the wedding pictures.

His wife, Olivia, a business manager at Barclay's Bank, said it was a wonderful day.

"We just had to have Bruce at the wedding. He's our baby.

"I didn't mind at all. I loved it and the guests did too. It personalised our wedding."

Olivia wore a strapless taffeta and tulle gown for her big day, carrying pink and white roses and pink gerberas.

Her parents, Howard and Christine Priestley, formerly of Wheatley, Halifax, travelled from their home in Brittany, France, for the wedding. They were joined by Marcus's parents, Keith and Gail Berry, of Trimmingham, Halifax.

Olivia's bridesmaids were friends Nicola Martin, Sally Brearley and Carly Haines plus her cousin, Rayana Kamal, and the bridegroom's cousin, Claire Mageen.

Best men were the bridegroom's friends Richard Bennett and Simon Tidey.

Joining Bruce as ushers were Richard Jowett and Andrew Midgley and the bride's brother, Sascha Platt.

The pageboy was the bridegroom's nephew, Thomas McNutt.

After a reception at The Rock Inn, Holywell Green, Bruce had to stay behind while Marcus and Olivia enjoyed a honeymoon in Mexico.
