Crash lands ex-Town junior player in court: He admits careless driving
A FORMER Halifax Town youth player tried to catch a drink that had fallen in his car – and smashed into another vehicle.
Lee Tuck's Renault Clio burst into flames along with the second car following the accident at Salterhebble hill, Halifax, on December 13.
The 19-year-old, who now plays for Blue Square North team Farsley Celtic, admitted careless driving.
He was fined 100 and ordered to pay 40 costs by Calderdale magistrates.
Waseem Raja, prosecuting, said: "The Renault Clio was being driven at 9pm by Tuck when he was involved in a collision.
"The two cars were in flames and police, fire crews and ambulance were called to the scene."
The court heard when police arrived the car was on the wrong side of the road.
Tuck, of Gordon Street, Elland, told officers he had been out for some food and while he had been driving his drink had fallen on the seat.
Mr Raja said: "His hands went to get the drink and the next thing he knew he had a head-on collision with the other vehicle."
Tuck, who represented himself, said: "It was my fault and it was a massive mistake. It won't happen again because I have learned from it.
"I play in Leeds, part-time and have to travel to Leeds to get there so it would be a real inconvenience if I lost my licence."
In October, the midfielder was involved in a brawl outside Liquid nightclub, Fountain Street, Halifax.
Two groups were involved in the incident which saw some of the brawlers kicking and stamping one another, a court heard.
Tuck was left with a fractured cheekbone and cracked bone in his left eye socket. He was bound over for two years and fined 200 after admitting threatening behaviour.
