D-day for play area lottery fund bid: Campaigners need your votes
TODAY a Calderdale community who are battling for a £50,000 makeover for their play area need your votes.
Campaigners young and old in Elland have spent weeks raising awareness. Today their bid for the grant from the Big Lottery Fund's People's Millions to transform James Street Play Area will go head-to-head with a similar scheme in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
Pupils from Brooksbank School, Elland, alongside their sports teacher Mark Ragan, members of Elland and District Partnership, the Mayor of Calderdale Conrad Winterburn and Police Community Support Officer Jem Brooker have stated their case.
They are up against Chesterfield Borough Council's B-Happy Project.
The scheme with the most votes will get the 50,000.
Ian Park, from Elland and District Partnership, said: "Today it's absolutely all or nothing. Everyone has been brilliant in their efforts to help win the grant to support the community in this part of the town which has had a hard time recently. They deserve everyone's votes today."
