Diane and Yum Yums head for Dragons' Den
A BRIGHOUSE children's author tried her luck in the Dragons' Den last night.
Diane White pitched to the dragons on the BBC 2 show in a bid to bag some cash for her series of Yum Yums books.
Diane - who uses the pen name Jess Porter - has written a collection of tales with fruit and vegetables as the characters. The books aim to encourage children to eat healthy food and each story teaches a moral such as listening to parents, making friends or road safety.
The mum-of-two launched her company last May and secured a contract with Borders book store.
Success was quick to follow, with the books flying off the shelves and a national book tour.
But it came crashing to an end when Borders went into administration at Christmas last year.
Now Diane plans to relaunch the series and, offering a 20 per cent share, she asked the dragons for 100,000 to spend on a school tour and a TV cartoon series.
Diane, who appeared on the show with business partner Tim Bhuller, said the whole experience was daunting.
"It was surreal. It was at Pinewood Studios, which was amazing to visit in itself.
"We were first up on the morning before the dragons, so I didn't have much time to sit down and enjoy the experience.
"It was very daunting. I had rehearsed my pitch a million times and fortunately remembered my words. I was so nervous though.
"It totally changed my views on the dragons. Most people think Deborah Meaden is the nastiest but she was actually the nicest. And I thought Peter Jones would be the nicest but actually he was the worst."
