Emmerdale star Verity Rushworth backs Kerbside

SOAP star Verity Rushworth swapped Emmerdale for Calderdale to show her support for recycling company Kerbside, which is threatened with closure.

The 23-year-old who plays Donna Windsor-Dingle presented awards to trainees at the company's premises in Luddenden Foot and promised to keep an eye on Kerbside's future.

Kerbside has been under threat since Calderdale Council made new arrangements for collecting recyclables with contractor Sita last year.

Verity, whose mum Fiona used to work for the council, said the organisation was valued by the people of Calderdale and provided a unique training and employment opportunity for some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Kerbside's chief executive Paul Brannigan said it was a wonderful gesture and had raised spirits at the embattled award-winning recyclers.
