Ex-squash club chief dies

FORMER squash club president Michael Gledhill, of Savile Park, Halifax, has died at 78.

Mr Gledhill, pictured, was born in Halifax and after schooling near Blackpool he completed National Service before joining the family business, J and A Binns Ltd, Pellon Lane, Halifax.

He worked at the wire-drawing business as sales director until his retirement in 1981. Mr Gledhill, a keen squash player, was a lifelong member of Queens Sports Club where he was president in 1967 and remained club trustee until his death.

It was at the club he met his future wife, Audrey. They married at Halifax Parish Church in 1951.

Mr Gledhill was president of the Yorkshire Squash Rackets Association for six years and a member of Millfold Squash Club. He was an honorary member of Old Crossleyans' Squash Club.

He was also member of Stafford Bowling Club.

He leaves sons Christopher and Richard, daughter Kathryns and four grandaughters.

His funeral will be on Friday at Halifax Parish Church.
