Exhibtion recalls the days of factories and cricket stumps
THE link between cricket and industry has been captured at a Halifax exhibition.
It has been researched by the Calderdale and Kirklees Cricket Heritage Project team based at Huddersfield University.
"Over the past 150 years there has been a fascinating relationship between cricket and industry," said project leader Peter Davies.
"Industrialists established cricket teams to encourage a healthy lifestyle among their workers and works teams have been very prominent in all the main leagues in the area.
"In addition, many cricket grounds are located in the shadow of mills and factories."
Calderdalle cricket clubs have reflected well known industrial names such as Mackintoshes, Websters, Dean Clough, Bradshaw Mills, Turner & Wainwrights and Smith Bulmers.
The display at the Viaduct Cafe, Dean Clough, runs until July with old photos, newspaper cuttings, club and league memorabilia, and old documents.
