Fans' group set for talks to revive Halifax Town
HALIFAX Town Supporters' Trust will discuss plans to run a members' club with council officials on Tuesday.
And Calderdale Council has reiterated its determination to finish the Shay east stand.
A business plan is being prepared by the trust and should be ready later this week.
The Football Association and Unibond League are also being contacted and help is coming from Supporters Direct which helps fans run clubs.
The trust and a consortium of businessmen, who had been funding Halifax Town as it went into administration, have both announced intentions to run a new club after efforts to reach agreement over its huge debts with creditors failed on May 9.
Trust spokesman Gavin Butler said following the creditors meeting fans still had no clear view of the consortium's intentions – and whether they would walk away or not.
"We are pressing on with our own plans," said Mr Butler. "I think the longer the consortium mess about the less support they will get."
The authority remains optimistic that a football team will be playing games at the ground next season.
Cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration and development David Kirton said plans had not been derailed by the uncertainty.
"As far as I am concerned it will not stop us going forward with the completion of the Shay stadium," he said.
"We will be discussing that with the Shay Stadium Trust.
"We all want to see the club going forward as it would be sad to see the end of football but we are none the wiser at what will happen," said Coun Kirton.
"The consortium are not saying a lot, if anything, but I do not see a reason why a football team can't play at the Shay," said Coun Kirton.
"Whichever group comes forward it would have to be viable."
Councillor Kirton said he would be talking to all those involved in developing the stadium following the council's recent annual meeting.
And, once the football club's future was known he was optimistic progress could be made on the soccer front.
"We are waiting for the consortium to say what its proposals are before we can move forward," said Coun Kirton.
