Friend pays tribute to 'fun-loving' Gareth, dead at 22 after suspected overdose
A FRIEND of a 22-year-old man found dead at his home has paid tribute to him.
Oliver Graham, 25, said Gareth Freeman was "always in search of fun."
Mr Freeman is thought to have died from a suspected drug overdose.
The labourer, of Backhold Drive, Siddal, Halifax, was discovered at his home in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Mr Graham, who lives on the same street, said he had been friends with Mr Freeman since the age of 14.
"He was mad - in a good way," he said.
"I saw him the day he died and he was laughing and joking. He was in the Exley Park Hotel pub and he came over and told me to get myself a drink but I couldn't stay.
"I wish I had now, I just really wish I had."
Mr Freeman lived with his foster brother Chris, who was asleep in the house at the time of the suspected overdose. They had lived there for two years.
Mr Graham added: "Everyone's in shock really, we're heartbroken - especially Chris. The pair of them were great friends. Most people thought they were real brothers, they looked after each other.
His brother was today too devastated to talk about the loss. He said: "I can't come to terms with it myself yet."
An inquest into Mr Freeman's death will open tomorrow (Tuesday).
The death followed a similar incident the previous weekend when 21-year-old Thomas Hodgson was found dead at a house in Rayner Road, Waring Green. A 28-year-old local man and 31-year-old from Wigan were arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs and released on bail.
