Friends' tributes to Naomi

FLOWERS have been left at the spot where 19-year-old Naomi Gough lost her life in a crash hours after a day trip to Blackpool. Colourful bouquets and cards have been placed today at Burdock Way, Halifax, in memory of the young woman killed on Wednesday night when her Renault Clio smashed into a barrier on the dual carriageway.

And tributes have been posted the Courier website from friends and mourners.

Close friend Zoe Smith said Naomi was a happy bubbly person who always had a smile on her face. She will be sadly missed.

University friend Andy Chapman, of Cleckeaton, said his thoughts went out to her family. He said Naomi was very friendly and loving and always cared about everyone.

Drinkers from the pub where she once work have also paid tribute.

The Blackpool trip was the furthest she had travelled since passing her driving test and her parents had worried about her all day – but tragically it was a much shorter journey that ended her life.

The former Brighouse High pupil had arrived home safely from her day out and called in at home to see parents Beverley and Stephen Gough before heading back out to work at a pub in Halifax.

Naomi, who was doing a photography degree at Leeds University, finished her shift early and was on her way for a pizza when she crashed.

Mr Gough said: "She was always smiling and laughing and that is how we will remember her."

Her former head teacher, Graham Soles, of Brighouse High School, said: "Naomi was a very pleasant and studious girl who was popular and well regarded by staff and pupils. Our hearts are with her family at this time."
