Get ready – it's time for youth theatre relaunch! Square Chapel sessions start for kids and teens

A HALIFAX arts centre is following up the success of a spectacular festive production by re-launching its youth theatre.

Square Chapel Youth Theatre sessions will be on Mondays between 4.30pm and 6.30pm for 13 to 18-year-olds and on Tuesdays between 4pm and 6pm for budding actors aged eight to 12.

A sizeable cast of young people from Calderdale took part in Proper Job Theatre Company's production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in the run up to Christmas.

Square Chapel marketing manager Suzanne Wynne said: "There will be exciting workshops on acting and stagecraft techniques, occasional specialist sessions on specific aspects of theatre such as stage combat, physical theatre and mime, free theatre trips and great opportunities to perform at Square Chapel."

There will also be Write to Record classes for teenagers running again this year. Write to Record is an opportunity for young people to use Square Chapel as their own personal rehearsal room or recording studio.

Suzanne said: "They work with each other and experienced musicians to produce arrangements, learn their favourite songs and write original compositions – and record them all. This is a fantastic chance for those between 13 and 19- years-old to get a head start in music."
