Glass-walled dining is in the pipeline: Restaurateur's £100,000 plan
THE outside seating area of a popular restaurant could be transformed into a glass-walled tapas bar and wine bar with a difference.
La Luna in Westgate Arcade is waiting for planning permission to build the 100,000 structure.
Glass walls would be raised and it would be fitted out with a solid oak ceiling, flooring and furniture exactly the same as the restaurant.
Director Tony Yumusak said it would create eight to 10 new jobs, adding to the 23 workers it already employs.
And it would bring an extra 60 seats for a popular eaterie that often finds itself turning customers away.
"On a night we are struggling for space," said Mr Yumusak. "We have two or three months of nice weather but the rest of the time you can't use the outside area. So we have come up with this idea. In the winter it will all be heated."
And in warm weather the glass walls will fold back to create an outside feel.
"It will have its own bar. During the day it's a cafe bar and after work it's a wine bar/tapas bar. But it's totally table service only – you can't get drinks at the bar. This creates a different feel. There are people who don't want to go to bars or clubs and they just want to sit somewhere and not be hassled by anyone.
"This is to create something different that Halifax has not offered.
"We only have four window seats here at the moment and everyone who books wants these.
"And it is going to create a different atmosphere in Westgate. The more people we keep in town is better for other businesses."
A decision is expected in four weeks and Mr Yumusak has lined up contractors to start building work either on-site or off-site.
It could be set to open on September 1.
The restaurant was established in 2002 and business has soared since its refurbishment last October.
