Grenade hoaxer gets a life ban
A BOMB hoaxer has been banned from an airport for life. The Halifax teenager allegedly told security staff at Robin Hood airport, Doncaster, that he had a hand grenade in his shoe.
Guards pounced and called police. No explosives were found.
The 18-year-old was attempting to board the 2.25pm Thomsonfly flight to Lyon in France. The busy plane left on time.
A spokeswoman for Thomsonfly said: "He didn't even board the aircraft. He was in the security area. The passenger has been banned by the police from flying out of Doncaster. We have never had an incident like this before."
South Yorkshire Police praised the security operation.
A spokeswoman said: "There are procedures in place to deal with incidents of this nature. South Yorkshire Police and Robin Hood Airport work together with airlines and all reacted to this situation in a manner that demonstrates the effectiveness of these contingency arrangements."
The youth was questioned under caution by police. They were taking Crown Prosecution Service advice before deciding whether to charge him.
