Halifax driver was caught up in M1 death smash
A HALIFAX lorry driver was caught up in a motorway death crash.
Police believe a Fiat Punto on the M1 southbound at junction 46 Austhorpe near Leeds hit the central barrier and veered across the carriageway.
The Halifax man's Scania heavy goods vehicle stopped short of the Punto but was then hit from the back by a DAF lorry.
The 47-year-old man from County Durham driving the DAF died in the crash, which happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The young male Punto driver - from the Hampshire area - was arrested for being over the prescribed limit and death by dangerous driving. He has been released on police bail.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the West Yorkshire Police Motorways Unit on 01924 292915.
