Halifax Town and Halifax RLFC jerseys go under the hammer
A MAN whose wife died of cancer is auctioning Halifax rugby and football jerseys to raise cash for charity.
Malcolm Priestley is selling off Halifax Rugby League and Town jerseys in a bid to raise cash for the oncology ward at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
The 61-year-old's wife – and childhood sweetheart – Maureen died from cancer just days before her 58th birthday in April 2006.
Mr Priestley, of Backhold Lane, Siddal, Halifax, and his wife would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year.
He said: "While my wife went through chemotherapy she was given so much support and was made to feel so comfortable.
"So this is really my way of saying thanks to everyone at the hospital who gave us their help."
So far Mr Priestley has raised 781 and he is now hoping to reach the 1,000 mark.
The retired bus cleaner said: "I hope the money will be used for new equipment or anything that will be of benefit to the hospital.
"I just want to use this as an opportunity to say a big thanks to all the nurses. People don't realise how hard they work."
Anyone who wants to make a bid on one of the shirts is asked to contact Mr Priestley on 07784 855200.
