Halifax Town survive tense final day
Halifax Town have survived in the Conference League despite losing on a nail-biting final day of the season.
Altrincham could only draw at Weymouth 2-2 and although Halifax were beaten 2-1 at the Shay by Stevenage, the Shaymen survived.
It was a dramatic day and after the game at the Shay finished, there were four minutes of injury time at Weymouth. But Altrincham failed to score again and they were relegated.
Now Halifax must hope that they can come out of administration and make a fresh start next season - still in the Conference.
Stevenage went ahead through Steve Morison midway through the first half and doubled their lead when Gavin Grant bagged a second.
Jon Shaw pulled one back for Town but despite a frantic finale they could not find an equaliser
Boss Chris Wilder was disappointed with the result, but delighted that the Shaymen survived by the skin of their teeth.
"If there was any luck going, I think we deserved it," said Wilder.
"The game summed up our season, really, giving two sloppy goals away then producing a strirring fightback.
"But I have nothing but praise for the players who were put in a difficult situation with the 10-point deduction."
