HBOS takeover: I will visit Halifax, says Eric Daniels

LLOYDS TSB boss Eric Daniels is expected to visit Halifax shortly to see what he has bought.

The American has publicly praised the Halifax brand and is said to be keen to visit the Trinity Road headquarters and IT and the call -entre operations in Copley.

Halifax MP Linda Riordan said his visit couldn't come quickly enough.

"He should get here as soon as he can," she said.

"He must talk to employees and myself here in Halifax.

"Mr Daniels might get a nice surprise – everything is set up, it is a lovely place to live and work and the town is central." His spokeswoman said: "Halifax is clearly an extremely important centre for the HBOS Group and Mr Daniels yesterday publicly acknowledged the value of the Halifax brand, as the pre-eminent mortgage provider, and its people," she said.

"We are still in the very early days of the deal but Mr Daniels will no doubt look for an early opportunity to visit the operations in Halifax, although it is too early to say exactly when this will be." The takeover is expected to be discussed next week at the Labour Party Conference in Manchester.

Mrs Riordan is hoping an emergency motion will open the whole debate up to the conference.

And, on Tuesday, she will meet a Treasury minister, at which she expects a Lloyds TSB chief to attend.

Mrs Riordan has organised a public meeting about the crisis. It will be held at the Nalgo Bar, Northgate House, Halifax, on Thursday at 6.30pm.
