Head praises exam results: 100 per cent pass rate for A-level students

A HEAD teacher has paid tribute to students and staff at the annual prizegiving.

Richard Baker, head teacher of Rishworth school, told the audience that nearly 90 per cent of students had achieved five or more A* to C grade GCSEs.

The pass rate for A-level students was 100 per cent, almost a third were A grades.

He spoke about the year's field trips to Flamborough Head, North Yorkshire and Berlin and recalled a soggy expedition to the Lake District as part of a Duke of Edinburgh award.

He also thanked the Parent Teacher Association, for helping raise more than 2,000 for charity, and the school governors for their work.

He paid tribute to outgoing chairman Dilys Whitaker.

He said she had been "an exceptionally active chairman to Rishworth School and her wisdom and sound judgment have served the school supremely well, as they are sure to continue to do in the future."

He also paid tribute to Andrew Curwell, a sixth form student who died, aged 18, last June, weeks before finishing his studies at the school's sixth form. His parents and brother, Tom attended the event.

Mr Baker said: "Andrew was in so many regards an embodiment, to be remembered, to be inspired by and to be emulated."
