I had to do report my drink-driving son, says mum

THOMAS Carr's mother, Mrs Julie Carr, told the Courier: "The night he came home it was obvious he was drunk.

"His safety, and that of others, was all I could think about.

"I rang the police straight away. I didn't even know which was the right number to ring.

"I just said my son has taken the car without permission and that he had been drinking.

"It was terrible to see him in court.

"You want to be the perfect family in the perfect scenario, but that's just not real life.

"I would urge anyone else to do the same thing.

"It is hard but at the end of the day it is not only theirs, but other people's safety."
