Irish music and more boosts Mayor's charity

Dancing, drumming – and a drop of Guinness – were on the menu when Halifax Irish Society held a fund-raising concert.

Irish music fans gathered at Arden Road Social Club, Halifax, to support the mayor of Calderdale's chosen charity for the year, the Forget Me Not Trust.

The trust is raising money to build a hospice for children with life-threatening diseases in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. It acquired a site in the Brackenhall area of Huddersfield in August where the hospice will be built.

Mayor Conrad Winterburn went along to enjoy the fun, which included dancers, singers and groups.

Performers, who had all given their time for free, included The McCarrons, Cassidy Irish Dancers, Paul O'Sullivan, Phil Nash Duo, Jodie Kennedy Dancers, Nathan Carter, Belt of the Celts, Peter Mylette, Stephen Doyle and Giant's Causeway.

Organiser Peter Timmons said: "We often have fund-raising concerts but this one is for the mayor's charity appeal.

"Any money we can raise will go to a good local cause."
