It's Oh Jamie for our Kathy's debut single

A DUO have won the Courier songwriting competition.

Paul Uttley, 45, and Dave Thompson, 50, members of the six piece band Lost Weekend have been writing together for more than 15 years.

It was their song, Oh Jamie, which Courier readers chose as Web Idol 2009, Kathy Haigh's debut single.

The backing track will be recorded by other members of the band.

Kathy and the band have already recorded a low quality version of the single and will be back at Calder Recordings for the final high quality recording which will then be released on worldwide download.

Mr Uttley said: "I was delighted and we're really looking forward to finishing the single off. We've got some more musicians to add to the track and we're going to give it a kind of a country feel."

He said they were anxiously waiting on the results night. "It was an exciting evening.

"We had friends ringing up and saying the vote is getting close, but at about 12 o'clock, someone rang and told us we looked like we'd won it."

The twelve finalists for this year's Web Idol competition have been announced.

The winner will be chosen at a live final at Liquid nightclub, Wards End, Halifax, on November 4.

Entry costs 1 and all proceeds go to charity. Selected drinks are 2 all night.
