Jennifer treks 34 miles...

Jennifer Jackson notched up plenty of miles highlighting the importance of exercise for stroke patients.

The nutritional support assistant, who works at the specialist stroke care unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital, walked a total of 34 miles just doing her job during Stroke Awareness Week.

She recorded the distance by wearing a pedometer to work to encourage her patients to take more exercise.

She is part of the award-winning team at the hospital, which helps patients on wards 7b and 7c on the road to recovery after a stroke.

The rehabilitation team also includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, doctors, nurses and consultants.

She said: "We pride ourselves on our teamwork for the benefit our patients. We are proud of the service we offer our patients and always aim to give them a treat during this important awareness week.

"I work between two wards yet never imagined I covered so much ground. It came as quite a surprise."

The week also included a pamper day for patients with hair, manicure and relaxation treatments, an information stand in the restaurant with a book, cakes and CD stall and a cheese and wine party with updates on the latest developments in stroke care.
