Join our Club: Run with us for fitness, say Lions
LET'S get moving – that's the message from a group of Calderdale runners
Stainland Lions Running Club is urging people to join their beginners' course.
Whether you want to return to running or need a nudge getting started, the club says it can help.
Stainland Lions has seen a surge of interest since it became part of the Courier's Join Our Club campaign.
We are highlighting the wealth of opportunities available for people to take up an activity, eat better and live a healthier lifestyle.
Chairman Diane Rafferty, who is co-ordinating the course, said: "If you've never run before or just want to get back into the sport the beginners course is a great place to start.
"You don't need to be fit or have any fancy kit, just a pair of trainers and be in good health. "Running is a great way to get fit, lose weight and feel great.
"Stainland Lions is a friendly club and new runners are always welcome.
"Non-runners always believe they can't run, and that those of us that do were born in running shoes.
"Nothing could be further from the truth.
"We all started red-faced and out of breath after jogging 50 yards.
"Most people have surprised themselves by going on to become regular runners, discovering something they really enjoy and also reaping the benefits of feeling fitter and healthier."
The eight-week course is aimed at anybody over the age of 18.
Thee sessions on Monday evenings are overseen by qualified coaches and include advice on warming up, stretching exercises and avoiding injuries.
The course costs 10 for eight weeks, deductable from the membership fee for those who on to join the club.
Sessions are held at the Lions' headquarters at Heath Rugby Club, West Vale, starting Monday April 27 at 6.30pm.
