Kerbside step in after Sita refuses to take nightclub's used bottles

A NIGHTCLUB boss will continue recycling 14,000 bottles a week thanks to support from Kerbside.

It stepped in after Calderdale's new waste collectors, Sita, refused to honour a longstanding agreement between Simon Jackson, owner of the Acapulco in Halifax and the Lee Bank recycling point.

Mr Jackson had been taking the club's bottles there for several years, but Sita has now told him that he must take them somewhere else.

Sita said it only dealt with household waste. A spokeswoman said: "This is a commercial undertaking and nothing to do with our contractual obligations with Calderdale Council."

Kerbside has promised to set up a special bay for the bottles which J Jagger and Sons has agreed to build free of charge.

Paul Brannigan, for Kerbside, said: "I can't believe that any company which claims to be serious about recycling could behave in this way.

"I suppose this illustrates the difference between an organisation solely driven by profit and one which acknowledges a wider community responsibility."
