Kids take to bikes thanks to grant
MORE youngsters will be able to get on their bikes thanks to a cash award.
Ash Green Primary School in Mixenden, Halifax, is celebrating a 7,660 grant for its cycling project.
The school is aiming to get more children cycling to school.
The money, which comes from the Awards for All scheme, will be used to teach children how to ride bikes and give them safety advice so that when they reach Year 6 they can take their cycling proficency course.
Head teacher David Kirk said: "It is pleasing when you put the work in for these grants and it comes to fruition.
"This money will give children who don't necessarily have a bike at home the opportunity to learn to ride one safely."
Money from Awards for All has also been given to the Next Step Trust, which is transforming the land behind its building at King Cross Road, Halifax, into a sensory garden.
The charity – which helps young adults from Calderdale with severe mental and physical disabilities – said it was delighted to receive the 10,000.
"We're jumping for joy," said a spokesman.
