Let the fun begin... fans lap up FC Halifax Town open day

LOYAL fans piled into the Shay to support FC Halifax Town's first open day.

Supporters looking forward to a new season and a brighter future put the problems of the old club, the ill-fated Halifax Town, behind them as they launched into an action-packed afternoon.

Chris Neatby, from the Halifax Town Supporters Club, said: "It is great for everyone to meet the team and this is a much nicer environment to do it because they are relaxed, whereas the players can get quite stressed on match days.

Halifax Town Supporters Club and its supporters trust joined forces to provide stalls, games and a legends match, which pitched five fans against an all-star team in a five-a-side match.

The legends team was made up of striker Wayne Allison, who started his career at Town, Andy Watson, Paul Fleming, Andy Thackeray, Graham Broad-bent, Ryan Toulson and Tom Naylor.

Places in the fans' side were auctioned off to Stuart Heaton, Martin Bishop, Johnny Maynell, Chris Neatby and Terry Sunderland who gave his place to Ben Fawkes.

The all-stars took the first half 12-0 but the supporters made more of an impact in the second half with a 3-1 scoreline, making the final score 13-3 to the all-stars.

Mr Neatby said: "It has certainly been a rollercoaster for fans this year. This is a way to give something back to the fans and is such a good way to open the season."
