Lloyds staff will get their bonuses early: Bumper pay packets at end of this month

BONUSES will be handed out to Lloyds Bank employees two months earlier than expected.

Bumper pay packets will be received at the end of this month by workers at the Halifax-based bank, rather than in May as was originally predicted.

The banking group, which is 41 per cent owned by the taxpayer, made a 6.3 billion loss last year.

Today a spokesman said March payments would be made to those earning less than 39,000 and whose bonus was less than 2,000.

The average salary of Lloyds staff is 25,000 and it is understood bonus payments to those people will fall below the 2,000 limit, but figures will vary depending on individual performances.

When plans to reward staff with bonus payments were announced last month there was strong public criticism. But union bosses claim the bonuses are part of workers' pay packages and should be given to ordinary staff.

The bank – which was formed when Lloyds RSB took over HBOS in January 2009 – has also recently announced it intends to offer staff a Sharesave scheme in the next few weeks.
