Looking after the needy
Children at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School have helped ensure that needy people in Halifax do not starve this winter.
The school in Portland Road has joined forces with local charity Calderdale SmartMove to donate food raised through its Harvest Festival to single people being rehoused.
Pupils have collected mountains of food ranging from soups and baked beans to hot dogs, with every other possible food well represented.
Senior co-ordinator for SmartMove Jill Norman visited the school to collect the food.
She said: "All of the food donated will be given out in our starter packs which we give to people who we help move.
"Our charity has worked with 10 schools so far this harvest and because we only ask for long-lasting food every child can bring something in and take part.
"We currently help one person a week move into new accommodation and the food provided by schools, including St Joseph's, is a great help which we are very grateful for.
"Children at St Joesph's have done a wonderful job bringing everything in and we would like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed.
"We rely on volunteers and contributions from schools such as this one to help us continue with the work we do so donations are always welcome."
