Lottery fraud: 110 held
SPANISH police have arrested more than 100 suspected lottery fraudsters who targeted Calderdale people.
Fifty-five people were arrested during a raid in Malaga and a further 55 were caught in Valencia.
The Courier has reported in the past how people in Calderdale have received letters promising millions of pounds in return for cash to cover bogus expenses.
Joan Brunning, of Barkisland, received one of the letters in April but knew it was a scam after living in Spain and knowing about the official lottery there.
All those so far arrested are Nigerians.
The Malaga gang is thought to have netted 21million, much of it from UK victims, and the amount gained by the Valencia gang is expected to be at least as much.
