Medics team for the valley to be based at Todmorden Health Centre
A TEAM of paramedics is coming to some of Calderdale's most rural areas to speed up emergency response times.
The ground-breaking project will see the paramedics, who will be equipped with a rapid response vehicle, dedicated to responding to life-threatening and serious emergency calls around Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.
They will be based at Todmorden Health Centre, working varying hours between 8am and midnight, seven days a week.
They will be working closely with GPs and district nurses, educating people in schools, community groups and care homes about the ambulance service.
The team will be an addition to service the areas already receive.
The project is being led by Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust and funded by NHS Calderdale.
The ambulance trust's locality manager Robert Eastwood said: "The scheme will help us reach patients with life-threatening conditions more quickly.
Steve Dighton, one of the four new community paramedics, said: "I think people always feel villages in rural areas are incredibly isolated, having the team in the local area seven days a week will provide residents with huge reassurance."
