Meet the crimefighters who turned crime writers
A FORMER Calderdale detective and his wife will be joining the likes of James Patterson and Agatha Christie on the book shelves as they make their debut in the world of crime fiction.
Former Det Supt Bob Bridgestock and his wife, Carol, will launch their first novel, Deadly Focus, in July.
Some of the money from sales of the book will be given to Overgate Hospice, Elland.
With 45 years of police service between them, Bob, 57, and Carol, 47, drew upon their extensive knowledge and experience of police work to become fully-fledged authors.
Carol said: "For years Bob has had people both laughing and crying with all his tales.
"Now we work together as co-authors under RC Bridgestock.
"Bob writes the structure of the story and I write the emotional side of it and 'craft' his work for him. It works really well for us and we have both really enjoyed writing Deadly Focus."
The couple, who have been married for 14 years, retired in 2004 and moved from Calderdale to the Isle of Wight.
Bob served 30 years with West Yorkshire Police and spent all but two as a detective.
He dealt with many high profile cases, including the murder of Kevin Jackson in Copley, Halifax, in 2001 which saw three men convicted and jailed for life.
He served in Calderdale, Huddersfield and Bradford and was awarded numerous commendations throughout his career.
Carol also gave 15 years of service as a support worker and was awarded a commendation during her time at Calderdale division.
The couple have just finished writing their second book, called Consequences, and have started work on the third part in the trilogy.
