More people stub out cigs with the NHS
HEALTH staff have been helping more people to give up smoking in the region.
New figures released by the NHS Information Centre show 18,155 people in Yorkshire kicked the habit between April and September 2011 – an increase of 409 on the same period in 2010.
Director for public health for NHS North of England, Paul Johnstone, said: “This is fantastic news. If you are a smoker, giving up is the greatest single step you can take to improving your health.
“Stopping smoking is hard work and takes a lot of effort and willpower.”
A further 34,279 people in the region pledged to give up smoking between April and September last year by setting a date to quit with their NHS stop smoking service.

Monday, January 23, 2012 at 03:02 PMQuitting smoking isn’t hard – it’s just that we have been conditioned to think it’s hard by the ‘nicotine replacement’ industry and the government. Withdrawal symptoms from nicotine are so mild as to be virtually unnoticeable if you quit cold turkey. It’s when you constantly top up the nicotine with patches or gum that the cravings become bad. The problem is that people believe they are making a sacrifice by giving up smoking – you aren’t. You sacrificed your health when you chose to start!

Monday, January 23, 2012 at 12:30 PMIf the picture of Calderdale Royal Hospital above was updated, the view would be impeded by the large smoking shelter they have for those visitors and patients who can't walk to the boundary of the hospital site to have their fag. I hate having to walk through the smoke and stink of people smoking outside shops, buildings etc.
