Nightmare goes on for family whose home was smashed into by car

A FAMILY who narrowly escaped tragedy when a car ploughed into the front of their home are still reeling from the smash.

The Blackburns, of Heathmoor Park Road, Illingworth, Halifax, were left in shock when a blue Ford Fiesta hurtled into their home.

The car missed the garage, where 13-year-old daughter Demi was feeding her 60 pet guinea pigs and 22 rabbits, by inches before smashing through a supporting wall. More than a week later and the front of the house is propped up with wood and mum Karen and Nina, Demi and her 10-year-old brother Sam are counting the cost of the accident.

Karen Blackburn, who runs a packing company with Nina, said: "It has just been a nightmare.

"We didn't have any gas for two days, our front door still shakes in its frame, we're having to prove exactly what we lost and the insurance still isn't sorted out.

"Demi and Sam are traumatised from the crash, Demi was too scared to sleep in her downstairs bedroom at first because she thought a car would come through.

"One of the pregnant rabbits suffered a miscarriage and had to be put to sleep a few days ago. We think it was the stress.

"We can't quite believe a car car came into our house but slowly things are sorting themselves out."

The woman driving the Fiesta and three young passengers were treated for minor injuries at the scene on May 19.

Police, firefighters and specialist rescue teams attended and spent several hours removing the vehicle.
