Nominate your favourite restoration in Halifax
NOMINATIONS for Halifax's best regeneration schemes are being sought for the town's civic trust awards.
Halifax Civic Trust is asking residents to name their favourite building, landscaping and environmental projects for its 19th annual awards.
Work should have been largely carried out during last year, making a significant improvement to the town or surrounding countryside.
Nominated sites will be visited by the trust, and the winners will be announced at its annual general meeting on April 29 at Halifax Town Hall.
Last year's winners were the restoration of Somerset House, Halifax, and Wainhouse Tower at King Cross, Halifax. Past winners have included the Dean Clough mill conversion in 1995, the 2.5 million People's Park restoration in 2002, and the roofing of Westgate Arcade in 2007, with many smaller projects also recognised.
Successful sites are marked with a green oval plaque, which is dated and inscribed with a description of the project.
Schemes must fall within the former County Borough of Halifax to be eligible – between Luddenden in the west, Northowram and Southowram in the east, Copley in the south and Ogden in the north.
To make a nomination, contact trust secretary June Paxton-White on 01422 834448.
